Problems associated with the bladder can come with painful symptoms that are also difficult to manage. Often they bring a generalised feeling of being unwell and stir up feelings ranging from anxiety to embarrassment. This blog gives a description of UTI’s (Urinary Tract Infections), with some remedy suggestions to use yourself.
For self help, a well-matched homeopathic remedy can bring relief to the immediate symptoms. But if you experience recurrent or persistent symptoms, seek professional help from a homeopath. Chronic, stuck symptoms are a sign that the body is working hard to resolve a problem but is struggling to do so. A course of homeopathic treatment aims to stimulate the body’s healing system to help it move through its symptoms quickly – bringing relief and phasing out the repeating pattern. Homeopathy works with the body to bring improved, overall health.
UTI’s are particularly common and can affect any part of the urinary system – the urethra, bladder, ureters or the kidneys. If symptoms are ascending to or towards the kidneys, this is a deeper, more serious concern than if they are in the lower parts of the system. This is because the body expresses symptoms in the least harmful way of which it is capable, so when deeper organs become involved, perhaps also with chills or a raised temperature and vomiting, it needs help. Always seek professional advice for symptoms that you are concerned by.
Common symptoms of UTI’s include abdominal pain, a strong and persistent urge to urinate, discharge, burning urination, urine that is cloudy and strong-smelling or that appears red or pink (indicating that there is blood in the urine). Even though the symptoms usually fade over a couple of days, during that time, the person may feel very poorly and unable to go very far from their toilet and a hot water bottle.
Some self-help suggestions
- Drink more water to flush through bacteria and other organisms from the urinary tract and to dilute the strength of the urine to decrease pain.
- Avoid eating spices as they heighten burning pains.
- Hygiene – keep the genital area clean and dry, whilst allowing natural discharges to do its own job of cleaning – don’t be too clean!
- Routinely drinking cranberry juice has a reputation for lowering the chances of succumbing to a UTI.

Potency and Dosage
Use a 30c or 200c potency.
Add 2 pills to a 500 ml bottle of water. Sip from the bottle every half an hour while symptoms are severe, giving the bottle 10 vigorous shakes between sips. When symptoms improve, stop the dose, re-starting only if they worsen again. Remember that the remedy is stimulating your own healing so don’t overdo doses – your body only needs a little nudge.
If there is no improvement, or if symptoms become worse, seek another remedy match or consult a homeopath.
